I don't think any of this bodes well for Pitino -- even if Reed has an expanded role and is pro-Pitino, Jack doesn't have to listen to him. Also, Jack knows he is approaching retirement and thus may figure he has nothing to lose by inviting a confrontation with rich alumni. On the other hand, the firing of JTIII shows that he can be pressured into doing something he doesn't want to do, and his role in the Ewing disaster has likely blown his credibility with anyone who cares about the program. It all falls under "stay tuned."
As a Georgetown alum, I certainly hope they do not hire Pitino. Has he not had enough scandals? Hopefully the school will rise above the temptation and hire a coach that acts with integrity in his personal and professional life.
DeVries will have other opportunities. I would be shocked if he left his son, the conference player of the year, at this point in time. And no, I don't think his son would transfer from Drake to join a team that is going through a complete rebuild. In two years, you bet DeVries would consider Georgetown. Today, doubtful.
The board ought to fire DeGioia to get his obstructionist ass out of the way.
I appreciate your insights and enjoy reading your blog. Keep it up!
