Georgetown Class of 2022 Recruiting Rankings Update
As summer AAU season gets underway, we update our recruit rankings for Georgetown in the Class of 2022.
While Georgetown awaits final word from Patrick Baldwin Jr. about his decision (which doesn’t appear to be favoring the Hoyas anymore), it’s time to look forward to the focus of this summer, which is the Class of 2022.
Georgetown will likely have three spots to fill for the 2022-23 team, and there are a bunch of notable prospects who they are involved with in the class of 2022.
Our first iteration of the 2022 rankings from Fall 2020 can be found here.
Tyrell Ward, Wing, (DeMatha Catholic High School/Washington, DC)
The top local player that Georgetown is pursuing in this class, Ward’s game continues to grow by leaps and bounds. It is not out of the realm of possibility that Ward could be a five-star by the end of the summer. The Hoyas have been involved with him since the beginning and are consistently mentioned by Ward in every interview as a team that is making him a priority.
Of course, the question remains, can Georgetown pull in a DeMatha kid for the first time since Mikael Hopkins in 2011?
Chris Livingston, Wing (Buchtel High School/Akron, OH)
A top-5 player in the Class of 2022 (not that that worked out too well with Patrick Baldwin Jr. in the Class of 2021..), Livingston is an extremely talented player who is more physical than Baldwin, but a little less of a shooter. While the Hoyas may not have the best chance here, this will likely be the five-star player that Georgetown goes after the hardest in 2022.
Cam Whitmore, Wing (Archbishop Spalding/Severn, MD)
While thought to be a Maryland lean, Whitmore and the Hoyas are still mutually interested in each other. The two sides have discussed a visit to campus, but have yet to set a date, according to Whitmore’s Team Melo AAU coach. Whitmore is an extremely talented scorer with NBA potential.
Rowan Brumbaugh, Point Guard (Northfield Mount Hermon/Washington, DC)
The player that I feel best about when it comes to Georgetown’s chances. Brumbaugh actually lives right outside the front gates of Georgetown, right by Saxby’s, and continues to be heavily pursued by the coaching staff. This is a two-school race right now between Georgetown and Wisconsin, but more schools are expected to join the fray this summer, as Brumbaugh’s recruitment continues to heat up.
Jaylen Martin, Wing (Florida State University School/Tallahassee, FL)
A player who has shown interest in becoming a Hoya for a long time now. Martin is a major scoring threat who should grow into a shot-making small forward role eventually.
Prince Aligbe, Wing (Minnehaha Academy/Minneapolis, MN)
Aligbe is a talented two-way player who was teammates with both Jalen Suggs and Chet Holmgren at Minnehaha, and will get to run the show next year as a senior. His recruitment has been quiet, but the Hoyas were mentioned as a contender back in October 2020.
Nick Smith, Combo Guard (Sylvan Hills/Sherwood, AR)
Blue-chip prospect who included Georgetown in his top-10 a few months ago, but recently re-opened his recruitment for an unspecified reason.
Judah Mintz, Combo Guard (Oak Hill Academy/Washington, DC)
Mintz is an explosive athlete and a talented scorer at all three levels. He would have been the star on his team at Gonzaga this upcoming season, but decided to transfer for his senior season, to Oak Hill, instead. Georgetown was involved with Mintz early on, offering both him and Devin Dinkins at the same time, but have fallen back in the race now, with Mintz not even mentioning Georgetown in recent updates on his recruitment. However, Georgetown is continuing to try and make some headway here, and they have an ace in the fold, as Clinton Crouch and Mintz have a very close relationship, dating back to when Crouch used to train Mintz. Could that lead to the Hoyas getting back into the race at some point? Perhaps. We shall see.
Justin Taylor, Wing (St. Anne’s-Belfield School/Charlottesville, VA)
Shot-making wing who has a good relationship with Clinton Crouch. Considered a UVA lean but the Hoyas remain in the hunt here.
Donovan Clingan, (Bristol Central/Bristol, CT)
Clingan recently included Georgetown in his top-8 but the Hoyas face stiff competition here. They will have a tough time getting Clingan to the Hilltop, especially with Ryan Mutombo just a year ahead of Clingan.
Christian Watson, Wing (St. John’s College HS/Washington, DC)
A tough two-way wing from DC with a solid jump shot and outstanding athleticism.
Masai Troutman, Wing (St. Andrew’s/Potomac, MD)
Troutman had indicated interest in taking a visit to Georgetown pre-COVID, and the hope is that that will happen now that things are getting back to normal.
Darren Buchanan (Wilson High School/Washington, DC)
A bulldog of a player who is tenacious on the boards and has an expanding offensive game. A lot of potential here with this high-motor prospect.
Favour Aire, Center (Bishop McNamara High School/District Heights, MD)
Again, could have trouble getting him in a Georgetown uniform because the Hoyas have Mutombo on the team now (boy, that feels weird to say), but Aire is a beast, and will be a top-5 center in the Class of 2022 before all is said and done.
Otega Oweh, Combo Guard (Blair Academy/Blairstown, NJ)
Oweh recently listed Georgetown as a school that was prioritizing him in March, saying, “They're just saying the same thing that they want to build the team around me and think that I can change the culture of the team. Their run to March Madness meant a lot. They didn't do that well this season but when it mattered they competed and made a run so that just shows that their a real gritty group so that was really interesting to see.”
Dug McDaniel, Point Guard (St. Paul VI/Fairfax, VA)
It seemed like it was between Michigan and Georgetown for McDaniel a couple of months ago, but a recent report omitted Georgetown as a contender for McDaniel. The presence of Dante Harris on the roster may give reason to make top 2022 guard prospects like McDaniel pause when considering Georgetown.
Denver Anglin, Combo Guard (Gill St. Bernard’s/Montclair, NJ)
Anglin mentioned Georgetown in a February interview, saying, "They have been talking to me a lot just emphasizing how much I bring to the table and how much they want me to go to that university. They also just really say that the way I play, I can really fit into their offense and facilitate and score the basketball for their offense and then also on the defensive end, they think I can do really well."
D’Ante Bass, Power Forward (Windsor Forest/Savannah, GA)
A very underrated prospect who will hope to really get his recruitment up and running this summer. Bass has ridiculous bounce and while inconsistent, his tape is that of a five-star player’s at times. He can be that good.
Noah Batchelor, Wing (IMG Academy/Hagerstown, MD)
Georgetown has been after Batchelor for a while, but they do not have a great track record with IMG kids. Not feeling too optimistic here as well because Batchelor has been very open about wanting to play in the ACC in college.
Quadir Copeland, Point Guard (Life Center Academy/Gettysburg, PA)
Consummate point guard who is a very good passer. Unclear where Georgetown stands in his list of offers, however.
Bryce Lindsay, Point Guard (Baltimore Polytechnic Institute/Baltimore, MD)
Another point guard who will need some time to develop and grow. Could be an option if the Hoyas miss out on Brumbaugh.
Chisom Okpara, Wing (La Lumiere School/Saxtons River, VT)
Does not seem to be a priority for the staff at this moment, but has a good relationship with Clinton Crouch. Being recruited by Penn State, Minnesota, Xavier, and Virginia Tech.
Saxby Sunderland, Combo Guard (Flint Hill High School/Oakton, VA)
A developing guard prospect who plays at Flint Hill, where Qudus Wahab played in high school. Good passer who needs to improve as a scorer.
Travis Roberts, Wing (Bishop Walsh School/Cumberland, MD)
Raw prospect who needs work, but has shot-making ability and could grow into a solid four-year player.
Devin Dinkins, Guard (Gonzaga College High School/Washington, DC)
Excellent shooter but limited physically. Hoyas have been involved here but would be surprised if they are making him a priority due to his lack of height and athleticism.
I’ve always thought highly of Gtown, but I’m deeply disappointed with the comments made about Devin Dinkins, a kid who has played with Judah Mintz since grade school and who is his close friend. My mother taught me that if you can’t say anything good about a person then say nothing. Did it not occur to the writer that those comments could affect Devin’s recruitment. If he’s not a priority, cool. But why describe him as limited in size and athleticism? That is totally uncalled for. The comments made about all the other players were of a positive nature, even the comments that were brief. Devin is a fine young man and a talented player despite his stature, and he deserves an apology.
