As I said last week when Georgetown lost to Seton Hall to fall to 5-13 and 0-7 in the Big East, I’m taking a break from Hilltop Hoops for the rest of the season, or until Patrick Ewing is dismissed as head coach at Georgetown.
My reasons for shutting down the blog until Ewing is gone are pretty simple.
1.) I am tired…of all of this. The losing, the lack of transparency from the program, the awful postgame presser conferences from Ewing, the lazy, error-ridden social media posts from the team.
2.) There is nothing more I - or anyone else - can say that hasn’t been said already.
3.) This team is not worth my time, or your time right now. They do not value your time, your support, or your money. That much is very clear.
The depths that this program has reached under Patrick Ewing’s guidance are embarrassing and unacceptable…and Jack DeGioia and Georgetown appear OK with allowing this farce to continue through the end of the season.
No university that is committed to fielding a competent men’s basketball program should be OK with anything close to a 27-game Big East losing and a 32-game losing streak against high major opponents.
The one thing that I will leave Georgetown fans is this: The decision has been made to terminate Ewing’s contract. He is done. The Board has placed the decision in DeGioia’s hands as to when to dismiss Ewing. There has been a lot of deliberating internally as to how and when to part ways with Ewing. So far, as I have reported earlier, DeGioia still remains reluctant to fire Ewing midseason.
Hilltop Hoops is an absolute blast, and something I love doing, but it can also take a toll on me mentally sometimes. This break is needed in more ways than one.
I will be back when Georgetown finally cuts ties with Ewing. I look forward to covering this program as they move into a new chapter - hopefully one that involves a clean slate and a completely fresh start from top to bottom.
So like a digital hunger strike? I feel the same, the program has sucked all the love and excitement out of GU hoops for me and I can’t spend any more emotional energy on it. I hope to see you back very soon!
Hope this painful episode ends soon enough to allow the hiring of the best coach available before other programs snap up the best options, and that you are back soon...
