Texas Guard Rowan Brumbaugh Commits to Georgetown
Brumbaugh, who grew up just outside the Georgetown front gates, is heading back home to play for Ed Cooley and Georgetown.
Rowan Brumbaugh, a former 4-star point guard from the Class of 2022 who spent his freshman year at the University of Texas before announcing his transfer recently, has committed to Georgetown.
Brumbaugh, a DC native who played his high school basketball at Northfield Mount Hermon in western Massachusetts, took a redshirt this year. He will have four years of eligibility remaining at Georgetown.
Patrick Ewing and his staff recruited Brumbaugh for multiple years while Brumbaugh was in high school. Brumbaugh, who grew up just a few short blocks away from Georgetown’s front gates, even took an official visit to Georgetown.
However, Ewing, who only took two high school recruits in the Class of 2022, preferred Denver Anglin over Brumbaugh at the time, thus leading Brumbaugh to move on to other options once Anglin committed to the Hoyas.
Brumbaugh originally committed to Northwestern, before eventually de-committing late in the 2022 recruiting cycle and flipping to Texas, with Chris Beard as his head coach.
With the 6-foot-4 point guard now in the fold, Georgetown has two capable ball-handlers who can run its offense this year, in Brumbaugh and Jayden Epps. Brumbaugh is known as an athletic, pass-first point guard who has great vision and ball-handling skills.
With Marcus Carr, Tyrese Hunter, and Sir’Jabari Rice ahead of him on the depth chart at the guard position at Texas, Brumbaugh elected to opt for a redshirt due to the lack of available playing time. He was expected to compete for a role in the Texas rotation next season.
Brumbaugh’s commitment brings Georgetown to eight total scholarship roster spots filled for next season. The Hoyas have five spots left to fill for next season’s roster. The center position figures to be a key focus for Georgetown in the immediate future, with rumors continuing to swirl about the Hoyas landing All-American Michigan center Hunter Dickinson.
I am thrilled to see that Georgetown can recruit players from as far away as (checks notes) Georgetown.
