Micah Peavy Commits to Georgetown
The Hoyas land their first commitment in the transfer portal from the versatile TCU wing.
Georgetown has landed a commitment from Micah Peavy, a 6-foot-8 wing from TCU.
Peavy, who has one remaining year of eligibility left, was an honorable mention to the All-Big 12 team this past season with the Horned Frogs, where he averaged 10.9 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game.
A former four-star recruit from Cibolo, Texas, Peavy began his career at Texas Tech before transferring to TCU after one season in Lubbock. As a senior at TCU, he started all 34 games for the Horned Frogs this past season.
He shot 45.8% from the field this season, while shooting 31% from three and 60.7% from the free throw line. As a three-point shooter, Peavy has seen his knockdown rate increase each year, going from 16.7% as a sophomore to 26.7% as a junior, and now, 31% as a senior.
Peavy also averaged career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, and steals this season.
Defensively, Peavy is a strong defender who can guard both guards and forwards. His blend of size and athleticism allows him to defend at a high level in one-on-one matchups, and his length makes him a threat to jump passing lanes and provide some rim protection too at times.
Peavy was the best defender on TCU this season, according to Evan Miya’s DBPR metric, which reflects the defensive value a player brings to his team when he is on the court. TCU’s team defensive efficiency (90.0) was also at its best mark with Peavy on the court.
After a season in which Georgetown struggled mightily to defend on an individual and team level, the addition of Peavy gives them a versatile two-way player who can defend at a high level and do a little bit of everything on offense.
From his perspective, Peavy can take another leap as a pro prospect if he can continue to improve his three-point shot and ball-handling ability. This relationship between player and program has the potential to be a very fruitful one for both sides.
