Georgetown Recruiting Update: Seniors Set to Say Bye, Hoyas Leading for a Transfer, and No More Lykes
The latest on what we are hearing about Georgetown's efforts in the transfer market, and an update on current Hoyas who are set to depart the Hilltop.
As Hoya fans wait with bated breath for Patrick Baldwin Jr.’s announcement (could it be coming today?), we’re here to provide updates on the latest non-Baldwin recruiting updates concerning Georgetown. Here’s what we are hearing.
Pickett, Blair, and Bile all set to depart Georgetown
While this has been expected for Pickett and Blair for a while, a source inside the program says that Jamorko Pickett, Jahvon Blair, and Chudier Bile will all be turning pro, and forgoing their additional year of college eligibility.
There had been some question about the status of Bile for next season, having only played for the Hoyas for one season, and there was some hope that he would return next season, where he would have been the team’s presumptive starting power forward, a role he excelled in for the second half of this season.
However, per source, Bile has received significant overseas interest, and intends to pursue that route, instead of returning to the Hilltop for a second season.
Georgetown has emerged as the leading suitor for Eastern Kentucky forward Tre King
With Pickett and Bile both gone, Georgetown has a need for a starting power forward, and they have focused their sights on Tre King, a 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward from Eastern Kentucky who is a two-time All-OVC selection.
Per source, Georgetown is the leader in the clubhouse for King, and the versatile forward is expected to choose Georgetown.
King averaged 14.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game this past season, on 49/34/68 shooting splits. He isn’t a shooter like Bile is, but is a similar physical player, and will bring more athleticism to what will already be an explosive Georgetown team in 2021-22.
Hoyas say ‘No thanks’ to Lykes
As it turns out, the Chris Lykes-to-Georgetown hype was a one-sided affair.
In a 247Sports interview yesterday, Lykes said he will be playing at Arkansas or Southern California this season. That’s quite the change from this week’s earlier rumor that Lykes would be headed to Maryland, after everyone and their mother was saying he would go to Georgetown initially.
So what happened?
Per source, while the two sides did speak, Georgetown never heavily pursued the former Miami and Gonzaga (DC) point guard.
As we discussed earlier, Georgetown doesn’t have a need at the point guard position with Dante Harris firmly entrenched as the starter, and they will likely need the roster spot that Lykes would take up for an addition at another position.
The lesson here, for top recruits? Don’t say no to Georgetown when they recruit you the first time around.
